Anytime is a good time to make some improvements around the house, but we find the beginning of the school year to be a great time to change your routine, since things are already up in the air! When it comes to improving your family’s oral health, we bet there are a few things you could be doing differently. We’ve got a list of some common problems we see and how to best fix them!
1) Improve Your Snacks
What we believe is healthy, isn’t always healthy. Juice and pretzels sounds good, but the sugar from the juice and the sticky remnants of pretzels will cause problems for your child’s already vulnerable teeth. Instead, go for milk or water and some crunchy fruits (apples, pears) and veggies (carrots, sweet peppers) to give those teeth an afternoon scrubbing!
2) Improve Your Schedule
This is a tough one because chances are pretty good that your morning and evening routines are already pretty packed. Try to find a way to create a larger space for oral hygiene in those routines. Prioritize that time so that it gets done well, and so your child begins to understand the importance of that activity.
3) Improve Your Dental Visits
This one is tricky, as well. Here are some things we’d like to see improved: we want your child to be their own advocate by letting us know what they want for their smile. We want your child to know that we’re the good guys who are working for them, not against them. Help us create that type of atmosphere by starting these conversations at home.
